Jessica Mayer Photographer Style

Mario Testino is a famous fashion photographer. The book that I checked out from the library is titled “Back Stage Mario Testino,” and “Front Row Mario Testino,” and is a collection of photographs from many different fashion shows from the mid to late 90’s. Testino’s style for this book is to really depict what is going on backstage at a fashion show and the view from the front row. There are many photos that use a low shutter speed to capture the motion of the models walking down the runway. He also uses a low shutter speed to capture the motion backstage where models are getting ready and frantically running around. Mario Testino photographs from his own point of view or the point of view of a normal observer or person at this event. Specifically, the front row photos are from an angle of an observer looking up at the model as she walks down the runway. In most of the photos the photographer is unnoticed. His style for this specific book captures the glamour of fashion shows and the collections of these designers. He also captures famous models when they are unaware of the camera and it shows their vulnerable side. Overall, for this specific book the famous fashion photographer captures the motion of fashion shows and the events that go on backstage and from the front row.

Jork Weismann’s book “Asleep at the Chateau,” is a book that has many photographs of many different people. All of these images are of people sleeping in the Chateau. It is unclear where the Chateau is but it seems as if it might be a Chateau in the Hollywood Hills. Jork’s style is very dark and almost creepy. The photos of people sleeping are all very different. Each person seems to be asleep in a different room or a different part of the house asleep. I believe that the photographer wanted each person asleep in this book to tell a small story about who they are. His style shows with the posed photos and the lighting of the images. The way each person is positioned and the accessories they have with them while they are asleep really say something about the person. These photos are a small window into the lives of these people. Jork really uses pose, props, and lighting to create the image he wants. He uses lighting to show the time of day. The time of day can also really say something about the person. For example, if they are asleep in the middle of the day or asleep during the normal hours of the night. Jork photographs these people in a place and pose where they are very comfortable and will not feel awkward. These images are slightly creepy but still say a lot about the person and that is what I believe makes these photos his.

Martin Parr is a very famous photographer that photographs normal scenarios and makes them special photographs. Most of his images are extremely saturated and colorful. They are very bright photos and can make the viewer happy just by looking at them. A lot of the events or scenarios that Martin Parr photographs are very typical events that anyone could come across. In my opinion, Martin Parr takes these typical events and finds something awkward or funny about them to photograph. He photographs from many different angles. Some are from eye level or a viewer’s angle and others are very up close and personal images. There are a few photos where the subject seems insulted to be photographed but that is almost what makes it a great Martin Parr photo. He sometimes uses a low shutter speed to capture motion. For example, in some of his photos at a supermarket he captures the motion of the customers going down the aisle with their carts. This also allows him to capture the chaos of the scene. Overall, Martin Parr captures typical moments with a lot of color and presents them in a way that is almost funny. The viewer is able to see a slightly awkward moment captured by Martin Parr in a scenario or setting that they participate in often.
