Francesco Nonino is an Italian photographer who has a degree
in medicine. He had lots of solo exhibitions in both Italy and USA. The book
Atmosphere consists a collection of black and white images of sky, which are
mostly clouds and a little bit of the landscape in the bottom. These images
were all taken in different locations. The types of landscapes in the bottom
are very different too; some were taken in the countryside, some were taken in
the city, some were taken by the beach; some even contains pedestrians,
tourists and friends. Some of the images even have lampposts and cables
sticking into the sky. The clouds are in
all different shapes, different texture, the contrast of black and white are
very interesting. Some of the images even show motion of clouds and people. The
objects in all the images in this collection are consistent, the layout is
consistent. Francesco wanted to relate the nature (the sky) and the mankind
(the landscapes), so conceptually, the sky is never separated from the mankind.
His images are special because no other photographer before him has
photographed sky and landscape together, only skies.
Kelly Connell is a modern American photographer, famous for
his portraits. She likes to raise questions in her photographs. The series
Double Life consists of photos of a woman that’s in a romantic relationship
with herself. The photos consist of two of the same women sharing intimate
activities with herself, everything that a normal couple does. All the
backgrounds of the images are out of focus, emphasizes on the relationship and
spaces she shares with herself. Most of the images has a pop of color. Kelli
explores how the subject matters in her photographs reveals about her identity,
how sexuality and gender roles influences identity in a relationship, also how
the views reaction when they see these images say about their whole identities
and social status.
Hansjörg Mayer is a Germany photographer whose interests are
in structures and surfaces. He uses light digital cameras and smartphones as
his photographing tools so all his photos are not high quality. They are all
grainy and blurry. The objects in his images are mostly interesting surface
textures of roads, rocks, tree, random objects. He likes to play with lights,
reflections and colors. He loves pictures that were taken by coincidence and
accident; he doesn’t want perfect images and I’d love to call his images
“snapshots”. Also, it appears that the two pictures that are on the same page
are either picture of the same thing or images that are associated. He seems to have been travelled to different
countries because he included some images of Buddha sculptures and some exotic
objects in this collection.
