Rumo Jiang Photographer Styles

Armin Linke
He is a famous Italian photographer and movie maker. After reading his book “Transient” I can sure his style is using the wide lens and hugely based on horizontal. Most of his photos talk about architectures and Large machines. These photos are really blue, and moving stuff in his picture usually has a little bit blur that’s mean he using cold white balance, small aperture, and long time exposure. People in his photos never watch the lens because people are not the theme of his work. His photos are amazing, that show the power and greatness of the human being. Everything is so big compared with people, but human built these wonders. He showed us the greatness and beauty of the human industry with a big aperture and a wide angle lens. He often changes the camera angle, sometimes above the sky (maybe he using a drone), sometimes on the ground those architectures and machines always fill the photo and it is very suitable, every time I watch these photos I always say How great of the human being. The wide-angle lens is unparalleled for the display of details and the shock of large buildings.

Stephen Shore
He is an excellent American street photographer, he took most of his picture while his travel, basically every photo is taken around of road, desolate but full of color. His style is using 8”×10” photos beautiful colors and an excellent use of light. The themes of his photos are really wide, include street, people he met, food even include television shows and New York Times newspaper. Most of his photos taken with the very good weather, background, and sky in these photos are very translucent, it shows more details. That is mean he prefers small aperture warm white balance and quick exposure. He was very strict with the light, and all the pictures were taken at the same timing.(because every shadow of people in his photo almost has the same length) Use this method to make his photo style very uniform, and use this uniform style to show his travel show different landscape in different countries. His photos like a dairy record his travel. These pictures are relaxing and peaceful like we joined his travel.

Jeff Wall
He is an excellent Canadian photographer and artist. I should say Jeff wall’s style is really hard to catch, totally different theme, totally different light and totally different technique. Everything he photoed is very faded, illogically and brave. Color in his photo is very blue and these photo faint sadness. It reflects some social phenomena and his view of this world. Pessimistic is the first word I think of after seeing a picture of him. Cold white balance and small aperture backed up his theme. Poor people and dilapidated streets fill with his work. I should say he is very good at using light to explain his photos. When photo dilapidated landscape, light is very good like graveyard dead tree and abandoned street, the feel of those photos don’t change, still very sad and that good light makes these feel stronger, It built a strong contrast. Most of his work is about people, people are the main theme, but people do not watch the lens because they are part of the story. Every his photo narrative a story really novel and grotesque story. He Imitated of famous paintings of the world with his own functions that are really amazing. I want to copy his work for our assignment, but it is really hard, that feeling of sadness is hard to copy.
